About the Fair

What began as a camping weekend for several local folk clubs in 1987 intended for organizers to get to know each other better morphed into an annual 3-day event.  We’re still trying to get to know one  another, but The Fair seems to be  doing quite well.  The mission of South Country Fair has always been to expand cultural horizons in Southern Alberta by giving our citizens the opportunity to experience a diversity of music, spoken word and performance art in the context of a three-day, camping-style, old-world  outdoor folk music festival.

You can park it for free in the designated parking area and walk in to camp; you can drive it in and leave it in the camp for $30.  Vehicle passes permit the holder to drive their vehicle onto site and leave it there for the duration of the weekend. PLEASE NOTE there is no re-entry. If you choose to move the vehicle off-site for any reason you will be required to park in the free parking area and walk into the campground on foot.

space is limited first come first served

Camping

  1. Camping is only available only to those who purchase a Festival Pass. In order to access the campground, fairgoers will need to show their Festival Wristbands.
  2. In the week leading up to the Fair, we offer the privilege of early setup for camping for our VOLUNTEERS ONLY. The fairgrounds will be open to Festival Patrons at 9am on Friday of The Fair. All fairgoers are required to vacate the fairgrounds by 7pm on Sunday . Given that all campers must have a wristband to enter the camping areas, campers must check in, at the Main Gate, between the hours of 9am – 5pm, on Friday or 11pm-4pm on Saturday. Volunteer Camping will begin at 5pm on Thursday prior to The Fair and end at 7pm Sunday.
  3. Currently, our long-term plan is to eventually reduce the number of vehicles (other than trailers) from the lower treed area.  We ask that campers to park at the top of the hill, and carry, lug, wheel or cart their camping equipment into the campground. There is a $30 Vehicle Access Fee for all trailers and vehicles. This is a one-time fee and there is NO VEHICLE RE-ENTRY. In other words, you pay one $30 fee to park your vehicle in lower camping, but if you take the vehicle off-site for any reason it will need to be parked in the designated free parking area and you will walk into the festival grounds. Car passes are only available at the gate on a first come first served basis with limited spots available.
  4. Trailer space in lower camping fills up quickly. Camping sites are not designated so please park larger units in a way that allows for maxim space for neighbours. We will be able to assist. Please DO NOT block off campsites to reserve for your friends. Camping is strictly first come, first served.

Volunteer Camping

Volunteer Camping will begin at 5pm on Thursday prior to the Fair, and end at 7pm on Sunday. Of course, volunteers who are actively involved in either set up or strike may, with permission, camp on site prior to or after the designated dates. Volunteers may check in to camp Thursday between 5pm and 9pm, or may check in with regular campers anytime after Friday at 9am.

Given that we appreciate the hard work and dedication of our volunteers, who help make the Fair possible, volunteers who arrive before Friday may use their vehicles to drop off their camping gear. We ask that our volunteers set a good example for other fairgoers by parking their vehicles in the lot at the top of the hill. Those volunteers who need to camp in or with their vehicles will not be charged a vehicle access fee but if they take their vehicle off-site and return to the grounds between Friday at 9am and Sunday at 7pm they will not be able to bring their vehicle back into the camping area (the vehicle must be parked in the free parking area for the remainder of the weekend). There will be no vehicle re-entry. Fair-goers will be charged a one-time $30 fee to bring a vehicle on-site. If the vehicle is taken off-site it will need to be parked in the free parking area of the remainder of the weekend.
